COURSES

Students are required to complete 5 compulsory courses.

Course 1.

Elementary Occupational and Environmental Health

 

It is a basic and introductory course for students intending to study in any discipline of occupational and environmental health sciences. General basic principles in the practice of occupational and environmental health and hygiene will be introduced. Other topics include toxicology, hazards, ergonomics and safety in the workplace.

Course 2.

Occupational and Environmental Diseases

​

It is a follow-up of the course Elementary Occupational and Environmental Health for clinical professionals (e.g. medical doctors and nurses) who need to acquire in-depth knowledge in the areas of occupational and environmental diseases, such as diseases of lung, skin, urinary system, liver, musculoskeletal system, reproductive system, injuries, etc.

Course 3.

Risk Assessment and Management in Occupational & Environmental  Health Practice

It is a follow-up of the course Occupational and Environmental Diseases for nurses and other health professionals who want to specialize in the discipline of occupational and environmental health practice. This course will cover the study of principles of health risk assessment and practice, occupational health surveillance, infectious disease control, health promotion and education.

Course 4.

Emerging Topics on Occupational and Environmental Health

This course will introduce emerging hot topics in the discipline of occupational and environmental health. It covers up-to-date information on occupational health services, climate change and the role of occupational and environmental health, safety culture, shiftwork and health impact, ageing workforce etc.

Course 5.

Practical Work in Occupational and Environmental Health

​

This course emphasizes practical work in the discipline of occupational and environmental health. It covers health education programme planning and skills for clinical practice in occupational health. Students will need to demonstrate competency in utilizing knowledge and skills acquired during this programme to complete the project related to occupational and environmental health practice. In addition, basic principles of epidemiology and biostatistics as well as skills of critical appraisal for occupational and environmental health studies will be introduced.
